Baachacs Collective
Curating Archiving Co.
Portfolio
The Baachacs Collective portfolio includes the archives of individuals, families and groups that have or are contributing to the cultural and built heritage of T&T. The process is inspiring, labour-intensive, and inquisitive, including curatorial and design work. The NGO hopes to have an exhibition of the outcomes soon.
Narrie Approo
Collection
The Narrie Approo Collection includes approximately 13 photographic albums, six notebooks with Midnight Robber and Black Indian speeches, notations, a mini dictionary of the Black Indian language, and illustrated reference books. Due to the age of Mr Approo, there was a handing over ceremony of approximately 70 per cent of the material to the West Indiana and Special Collections at the Alma Jordan Library, The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus. Mr Approo and the family agreed to this for the safekeeping and safeguarding of the material for future generations.
Michael Camps
Collection
The Michael Camps Collection includes the sailor's sextant, captain's log, navigation log, notations and photographic slides from the sailor's 1980s circumnavigation, albums and newspaper clippings. The material is digitised, and reproductions are prototyped. Dr Camps drafted his memoirs, which are in the editing stage. Christopher Laird of Banyan has recorded the doctor and sailor on film, and BC proposes to edit six podcasts to break the material down into small, engaging pieces on his life's work in pediatrics and medicine, his circumnavigation, and his love of teaching sailing.
Len 'Baba' Holder Collection
The Len 'Baba' Holder Collection exists due to the diligence of Holder's daughter Cherry-Ann Celestine who holds essential information on the people, locations and context of his photos. The collection includes the artist's reference material (magazine and newspaper clippings, four 1970s souvenir carnival papers), 1960s and 70s black and white photographs of family, and friends, steel pan yards, Port of Spain and Trinidad Carnival, original pencil drawings and approximately thirty of the artist's wood sculptures and reliefs (some unfinished), retrieved from his studio after he passed.
